Hi Michael,

This particular error happens with some early model 3G modem chipsets.

First, go into the "Properties" of the modem in the "SMSC" list of NowSMS.

Try changing "SMS Access" to "GSM". (Assuming this is a 3G device, this setting doesn't actually drop you to 2G mode. It just switches to circuit switched mode for SMS, as most mobile operators don't support packet switched mode for SMS.)

Press OK, then press Apply to save the changes, and let the service restart.

See if that resolves the problem. In a few cases, this is enough to resolve it ... but most often it will not.

In this case, the problem is that the modem requires the SMSC address to explicitly be set. If you put the SIM card into a handset and check the SMS message settings, you should be able to determine the SMSC address for your mobile operator.

The edit SMSGW.INI, and under the [Modem - ZTE Handset USB Modem] header, add:

SMSC=+99999999999

Where +99999999999 is the SMSC address of your mobile operator.

The modem should read this SMSC setting from the SIM card, but we had this problem a lot with early model 3G modem chipsets.

If this doesn't resolve your problem, or you need more help determining the SMSC address, let me know.

Post your SMSGW.INI so that I can verify the settings tomorrow. We can be picky in particular about the manual edits.

Also put the SIM into a phone and verify it can send an SMS ok. This error can also sometimes occur if the SIM is not provisioned for SMS services.

But most often it is that an SMSC setting is required.

Also if you can post an SMSDEBUG.LOG that gives us a good look at things.
