Some time back there was an update made that defaulted the BinaryDCS value to 4 when using WDP adaption for a particular SMPP connection. See this thread- http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/13877.html

This morning we went in to production with version v2009.07.09 and found that the BinaryDCS was being sent as F5 on connections using WDP adaption and we had to edit the smsgw.ini file and add the BinaryDCS=4 value for each connection that uses WDP. It seems to be working now and I was curious if that was an intentional change or not.

Hi Frank,

Apologies for the inconvenience.

We generally try to avoid changes like this which can impact an existing installation when upgrading.

In this case, we added a general option for remapping DCS values, in order to give flexibility for configurations that require this type of control.

When this feature was implemented, the automatic remapping of DCS values when WDP Adaptation is enabled for a connection was removed.

It's a bit ironic that the per-SMSC BinaryDCS override is what you were asking for 3-1/2 years ago.

We will put the automatic override back in for connections with WDP Adaptation enabled. However, the presence of a BinaryDCS setting for the connection will take precedence.

You're right it is ironic and I agree that it is more flexible to be able to set the value on a per connection basis. The problem we had is that the change in behavior was unexpected although it's entirely possible I missed it in the release notes. One thing we did notice after adding the setting is that the entries in the smsout log file still show DCS=F5 even though the dcs being sent is 4.

Hi Frank,

I wanted to post a follow-up on this ...

The way this override worked before, the log would also report DCS=F5.

We have decided to restore the previous functionality, where if a BinaryDCS value is not set for the connection, WDP Adaptation would automatically remap F5 to 4.

The update is at http://www.nowsms.com/download/nowsmsupdate.zip.

I wouldn't recommend updating to this version at this time, as it is an interim release which has not been as fully tested ... we just make interim releases for people who are facing specific issues or who are interested in trying other additional new functionality.
