I'm evaluating Now SMS with a Nokia N82. All I want to be able to do is use the SMTP-SMS feature, and seem to be able to send SMS's but don't receive them.

The SMS debug log looks OK:

14:37:35:031 [2] ThreadProcessModem: Processing EC5B86DF.req...
14:37:35:031 [2] ThreadProcessModem: OUT: AT+CMGS=40

14:37:35:093 [2] ThreadProcessModem: IN:
>
14:37:35:093 [2] ThreadProcessModem: OUT: 0001020B917227218714F300001EF4F29C2E03D0CB73BACC357EB741AF184D37B3815E319A6E6603 01
14:37:35:265 [2] ThreadProcessModem: OK

The SMSOUT log also looks OK:

2009-10-20 14:37:35,EC5B86DF.req,SMTP sender test2@test2.com to +27721278413,+27721278413,OK -- Standard Modem over Bluetooth link,SubmitUser=test2;Sender=0xx495xx35;Text="test2@test2.com /14:36 /14:36 "

Is there anything I can check on the phone? All I see is an active bluetooth connection.

Any ideas why I'm not receiving the SMS (I can send a SMS from the phone itself to the same recipient without any problems)?

TIA,
Michael

Hi Michael,

Unfortunately, the GSM modem implementation in Nokia phones supports sending messages only. It's the case with all Series 60/Symbian models, as well as all Series 40 models from the 3rd generation or later.

There's some good GSM modem information at the following link:

http://www.nowsms.com/support/GSMModem.htm

The bottom of the page talks about phone modem issues. But these days the best option is USB stick modems. We've posted some "hands on" experience with some USB stick modems at http://blog.nowsms.com/search/label/GSM%20modem.

Hi Des,

Thanks for getting back to me. For evaluation purposes sending SMS's is fine - I don't need to receive.

Kind regards,
Michael
