Do you need to have the SMSC all set up and working to send MMS messages, or will it be able to do that with just the MMSC activated??

I try to send MMS and get a message saying "message submitted" but I dont see any traffic going out of the pc and nothing comes to the pc. Please help me out ??

You need to have the SMSC all set up and working.

MMS messages are transmitted using a combination of SMS and WAP technologies.

SMS is used for the notification part of MMS delivery. Once the notification is received, the rest of the MMS message is pulled over a WAP connection initiated by the receiving device.

Without an SMSC link, the MMS notifications cannot be sent out to the recipient, and the recipient device will never know to connect to retrieve the MMS message.

P.S. - Here's a link to our "Quick Start Guide", which is good for working through the process of getting things up and working.

Thanks for the replies and making it clear...

Someone said in another topic that could the add the MMSC number into there phone and use it, but I know this might seem real basic, but what would be the benefit of adding the MMSC number to the phone.

Also, could you in future guides/Faqs make some diagrams, cuz then it would be a whole lot easier to understand and you wont get people like me asking "basic" questions...

Thanks again

I'll admit that we're a bit graphically challenged when it comes to diagrams, but if a picture is worth a thousand words ... is a thousand words worth a picture? If so, we've got quite a library of art here ... but I digress.

You can configure an "SMSC number" into your mobile phone. This SMSC number is used when the phone sends an SMS message. You're generally best leaving well enough alone and leave the default value there unless you by some chance you have an arrangement with an alternate SMSC provider. In the old days, people used to go through lists of SMSC numbers from different operators around the world, and try to find operators that didn't have their SMSCs locked down, and that would let foreign numbers send SMS messages through their SMSC without charging them. Those days are gone.

I think what you might be asking about is changing MMS or WAP settings in the mobile phone.

When you send an MMS message from a mobile phone, the phone initiates a WAP connection (usually over GPRS), and posts the MMS message to an MMSC (a.k.a., MMS Message Server). Generally, you can configure the MMSC URL (an http:// address), the IP address of the WAP Gateway, how the data connection is made from the phone (GPRS Access Point Name to connect to ... or some phones also support dial-up data connections).

Why would you change any of this?

Well, you might have a user community that is using MMS for a specific application, where you can get some more control over the environment, or better control over the costs.

You might be a developer that wants to capture the raw MMS message files and SMIL generated by different mobile phones.
