A technical support note on the Nokia D211.

The Nokia D211 does not allow applications to receive SMS messages via AT commands. Therefore, it can only be used to send SMS and MMS messages ... it cannot be used to receive messages (no 2-way applications).

Is it possible to write a script using nokia d211 to send sms-messages when an e-mail has been received?

You'd need to write a script that interfaced in with your e-mail system ... that would be the hard part.

Then you send a message.

If you were sending a message using our Now SMS/MMS Gateway product connected to the D211 modem, you would submit an HTTP post to our gateway to tell it to send out an SMS message via the modem.

Of course, as I mention above, if you're in the market to purchase a GSM/GPRS modem, the D211 is NOT a good choice, becuase it does not allow applications to receive SMS messages via AT commands, and therefore the Now SMS/MMS Gateway can only send messages via this device.

A better choice as a PC card is the Sierra Wireless Aircard 750. (Just beware that most versions of it ship with old firmware, and you should update to the v3.x firmware on the Sierra Wireless site before attempting to make much use of the device.)
