I have only downloaded a trial version and I could not start it. I cannot access also the web interface. It says in the service tab that the SMS Gateway Service is not active and the SMSC/MMSC Status is not active also. I uninstalled my ESET and turned off the firewall, thinking it might be the problem but nothing happened. I have 10 days left to finish my thesis and I badly need your help. Thank you very much!

Hi Rachel, I don't know how to help you, because I don't know what (if anything) you've configured. Usually when people ask questions like this, they are expecting NowSMS to be something that it is not. The first question that I would ask you is what type of SMSC connection are you using for NowSMS? If you are unsure what I mean by this ... NowSMS is not a bulk SMS or MMS service provider. Also, NowSMS is not a replacement for a bulk SMS or MMS service provider. You need a connection to an SMS service provider, or a GSM modem, before you can send any messages with NowSMS. NowSMS is a middleware tool which simplifies the process of connecting to one or more of these service providers and/or managing one or more GSM modems. You can find more information here: http://www.nowsms.com/support/faq.htm Basically, without some sort of SMSC connection, you're not going to get anywhere. If I've misunderstood your situation, please explain what SMSC connection you are using, and what configuration settings you have applied in NowSMS. To install the service, you place a check in the box next to "Run as service". -- Des NowSMS Support

Hello Des, Thanks for your reply. I have tried to check and uncheck the box next to "Run as Service" for several times and it still doesn't start. It says in the manual that if I check the box, the "Start" button should be disabled but it never was since I installed it. I am using Sony Ericsson K800i as my GSM Phone.

Hi Rachel, After you check "Run as Service" ... wait about a minute. Are there any error messages displayed in red on that screen? (Other than "Service is NOT Active") Does it continue to say "Service is NOT Active"? What if you press the "Start" button, does anything change? Go to the "Serial #" page, and check the checkbox to enable the SMSDEBUG.LOG. Try pressing the "Start" button again. Then go back to the "Serial #" page. Is the "View" button enabled for the SMSDEBUG.LOG? Assuming that it is, I'd like to see the content of that file. Most likely the problem is a port number conflict, but there would normally be an error that specifically mentions this. The "Port number for web interface" on the "Web" page of the configuration dialog needs to be set to a port number that is not in use by any other applications. The default port of 8800 is usually ok for this. -- Des NowSMS Support

Good morning Des. I have tried to click the "Start" button, "ERROR 1067" showed up in 2 seconds. The "View" button beside SMSDEBUG.LOG is disabled. Also, I cannot access the web interface, how would I know if the port number is being used or not? Thank you very much!

Hi Rachel, Sorry I'm running a bit behind responding to questions. Error 1067 usually means that the SMSGWS.EXE or MMSC.EXE file is missing. I now understand the "ESET" virus scanner reference that you mentioned in your first message. There was a problem with ESET claiming that SMSGWS.EXE had an unknown virus. We've confirmed with ESET that there is no virus, and they've fixed their signature checks. If you've updated ESET with its latest virus signature file, there shouldn't be any problem. However ... you need to run the NowSMS install after updating the ESET signature file (or after disabling it). The problem is that the virus scanner blocks the installation program from copying SMSGWS.EXE to your computer. That leaves NowSMS only partially installed, and results in the 1067 error. Check the "Program Files\NowSMS" directory, and confirm that SMSGWS.EXE does not exist. Assuming it does not exist, run the NowSMS install again as that file needs to be present. -- Des NowSMS Support

Hi Des!!! Thank you so much!!! I've finally accessed the web interface! You're right, SMSGWS.EXE is missing. Last week, I run NOWSMS before uninstalling ESET. What I did was, I uninstalled NOWSMS again and installed it again (ESET is already uninstalled), and it worked! Thank you so much! Now I can work with my thesis! I doing it in PHP.
