hi,

I am evaluating the product at the moment for doing some availability and performance testing for a variety of services at a telecoms company.

I want to test for example sending an SMS and checking for a receipt and logging the turnaround time. Same thing for MMS, WIG, SMTP via MMS etc.

I was wondering whether I can do this with your gateway?

They have written some custom services that can do SMS and other simulations, but of course each time something new arrives (like MMS now) they have to develop a new simulation. Therefore they are looking to rather buy a gateway that can handle the simulations and post back availability and turnaround time to their own logging systems

Hi Willem,

It's not really what we were designed for ... but I think you could do a lot of this by sending yourself a message through the gateway.

Essentially you send the message out to the operator network through the gateway, and then wait for it to be received back by the gateway.

To really test out the MMS side of things, you'd need to use the v5.0 release which is currently in beta (more info and beta download @ http://www.nowsms.com/beta5). The reason I say this is because the way that MMS is handled in the v4.x version, it largely bypasses the operator system ... with the gateway acting as its own MMSC.

In the v5.0 release, there are more options for routing MMS messages. It's even possible to route an MMS message out through a GPRS modem to an operator MMSC ... only to have the operator MMSC deliver it back to the GPRS modem and into the gateway.

With the v4.x release, you'd really only be testing SMS related functionality, as the MMS connectivity bypassed the operator MMSC.

Unfortunately, documentation is a bit sparse for the new features of the v5.0 release, but we're trying to support it in the Now SMS/MMS Gateway v5.0 Beta Support forum.
