I downloaded the trial version of the Now SMS recently. I am using my Nokia 3310 as GSM modem connecting to my PC serial port COM2 using a data cable.

-The problem is when I start Now SMS, as I specify the connection I'm using which is COM2 and when I press the Test and Add Modem button, it says that it can't detect it. What may be the problem?

-The data cable I'm using has 4 pins at the handphone connector end. How can I distinguish if my cable is FBUS or MBUS ar maybe both FBUS/MBUS?

-Also I've read one of the discussion topic about the supportability of Now SMS with Nokia 3310. I tried sending AT commands to my Nokia 3310 using HyperTerminal but it does not give any response back to the messaging window of the HyperTerminal as I should be receiving an 'OK' response whenever I type ATZ and press ENTER. Can somebody pls help me with this...

Hi,

Unfortunately, the Nokia 3310 does not have a built-in modem interface. That is why you are not seeing a response to those modem commands within HyperTerminal.

I don't think a different cable will make a difference, as it appears to be a limitation of the phone.

P.S. - For the 9210, it can be used for sending only, not receiving. I responded to that question in a duplicate posting:

Thanks for the help :-) I reaaly appreciate it.
Another question:
What if I were to use Nokia 8210? Does it have a built-in modem interface which will receive AT commands?

If I were to send AT commands visa serial port to my Nokia 8210, which kind of cable should I be using? MBUS or FBUS?

Most of the cables that I've seen for the 8210 are auto-switchable between both FBUS and MBUS.

Unfortunately, I don't remember which provides which type of support (and it's Friday night, and I'm running late for the pub ). You need a cable that allows you to use the phone as a data modem (e.g., internet access). So you should verify that the cable will support that type of connection.

Note that Nokia only officially supports using the 8210 as a data modem via the infrared connection.

Try a different port speed, and see if that makes a difference.

But it does sound like the wrong type of cable. Note that Nokia does only officially support using the 8210 as a data modem via the infrared connection.

I bought a data cable for my Nokia 3310 cellphone but am unable to connect it to my cellphone as the connector on the cable has 4 pins which do not match with the connectors on my cellphone. Do I need some adapter to connect this cable to my cellphone?

Thanks in advance.

I hate to state the obvious ... but it sounds like you were sold the wrong cable. You should ask this question of the party that you bought the cable from.

I'm also not sure that the Nokia 3310 supports a GSM modem interface. So if a cable does exist, I think it may only be for unlocking/programming the phone.

Hi,
I have a nokia 3310 and I have a serial data cable which on one end(the PC end) is a male serial cable and the other(the phone end) is a headphone like plug.
I want to use this cable to connect my phone to my PC and do stuff.
Can this cable or the headphone like connector on the phone be used for data?
If so, what software do I need?!?
THANKS a lot! :-)

To the best of my knowledge, the Nokia 3310 cannot be used as a GSM modem.

I am not sure what else you can do with it.
