I'm using a sierra AirCard750.
But when I try to send some SMS messages through GSM(cause my carrier doesn't seem to support SMS over GPRS), a consecutive CMS+ERROR 500 occurs after receiving a bulk of SMS or sending MMS.
I'm wondering if your NowSMS have some problem in handling these. Once these errors occur, I can not send any SMS message even though I can send MMS.

Thanks.

I've heard two other reports of similar problems (or maybe they are both from you) ... always with a Sierra Aircard 750.

When the problem occurs, do all sending attempts result in a CMS ERROR 500? Or does the modem become non-responsive?

I'm starting to suspect that there are some problems with some Sierra cards, or with some firmware versions.

Unfortunately, if the modem decides to report errors (and this 500 is unfortunately non-descript, as it means "unknown error"), there is not much that we can do to attempt to reset the modem.

In v5.50, we introduced some logic where if a modem reported errors on 5 consecutive sending attempts, we would attempt to then reset the modem.

As your carrier doesn't seem to support SMS over GPRS, I would suggest that you explicitly set "SMS Access" to "GSM" in NowSMS. It could be that after some period of time of being connected, the modem might think that it has registered to be able to send SMS over GPRS, and it might be getting confused.

I will say that in my own tests, the Aircard 750 has been very good when using SMS over GPRS. However, when it is using SMS over GSM, I've noticed more 500 error ... usually the problem occurring when the modem is receiving SMS messages, attempts to send while the receiving is occurring fail. I don't see this on that modem with SMS over GPRS ... and I don't see this behaviour with other modems.

Thanks to your tip, I found that the problem occurred several hours after I received MMS-retrieve notification message. Even though I retrieved the MMS successfully, the problem had a tendency to occur.

But I'm still wondering why the error bagan to occur AFTER SEVERAL HOURS.
And, if so, is there any way to block or prevent it?

Thanks again ..
Now, Is there any way to block that message or

In my own experience, the problem has always cleared itself. That is why I am curious if when this error happens for you, the modem ever comes back, or if it stays in that confused state.

One other thing that I should mention is that if the Aircard loses signal, it also will return this CMS ERROR 500. However, if you're still able to send MMS, it is obvious that the Aircard still has a good signal in its connection to the operator.

We close our connection to the modem and release all associated resources, and then open it again. It is very similar to stop and restarting the NowSMS service.

But when the modem is returning a "500" error, it is possible that something is going wrong internal to the modem.

If you're seeing the problem frequently, it might be worth trying to download a new version of firmware from the Sierra web site. If you select "Europe/all others" for the carrier, there is a v3.2 release available for download (and I have noticed that they periodically update these files with minor version updates ... I downloaded v3.2.0.7 several weeks ago).
