It depends on the number and type of SMSC connections that you have configured (and your license of NowSMS, as we will also slow down delivery to x messages per minute or per second based upon licensing). But, the speed of SMSC connections really varies ... from 6-10 per minute with GSM modems (where SMS over GPRS is not supported) to several per second and faster on direct SMSC connections. So I'd really need to know more about your configuration to answer your question. -bn

Hi Bryce, Considering the case with GSM modems, what is the max number of SMSs they can receive in a min? And for sending through GSM modems, is there a difference between mobile phones and external modems?

Hi Saaed, I think receiving speed on GSM modems really varies quite a bit between different devices (and whether they are accessing SMS via GSM or GPRS). The fastest speeds are possible when using a device that supports the "Direct to Modem" setting in NowSMS. (Unfortunately, it's hard to tell whether a modem supports this or not, because if the modem doesn't support it, NowSMS automatically falls back to other logic and does not report any errors.) Basically, when the modem receives an SMS message, it can either save it to the SIM card, save it to memory on the device, or it can send it directly to NowSMS over the modem interface. Most phone modems only support saving the received message to the SIM card or to memory on the device. Most dedicated modem devices support saving the received message to the SIM or delivering it directly over the modem interface. I've had a Sierra Wireless Aircard 750 steadily receiving 1 message per second on an operator that supported SMS over GPRS. But in general, I think you should expect to see receiving speeds comparable to your sending speeds. -bn |
