Hi All,

A thousand apologies if this has been discussed before.

Working on a WAP download project, just discovered that one of the major carriers in my geography has a 3k limit per item download!!! This pretty much rules out all content I am working on for delivery. Is it possible to get around this somehow by running my own WAP gateway? At the present I am sending WAP push notifications to the handsets on the respective carriers.

I am a complete NEWB so be gentle!

Thanks, Digs.

Hi Digs,

Yes, you can setup your own WAP gateway. The only problem is that you need to get the settings changed on your users' phones to connect to your gateway. With Nokia and Ericsson phones, you can send a setup (OTA) message to the phone with the new settings, but with other phones it needs to be done manually.

If the carrier supports GPRS, you'd also need to do some investigation to determine if a different GPRS APN needs to be used to access an external WAP gateway. (Many times operators have multiple GPRS APNs, and to connect to an external WAP gateway, you need to connect to their APN which allows internet access from a PDA or laptop.)

You might want to try contacting the operator to let them know about the problem, and suggest that they visit www.wap3gx.com and/or contact us.
