Hi Bryce,

On most recent handsets there's a special SMS Chat feature in which user does not have to type in the other party's phone number each time and every new message is added to the end of the list of previous messages, etc. Is this special mode something we can achieve through NowSMS ?

TIA

Saeed

Hi Saeed,

Are you talking about instant messaging? (that is Wireless Village, a.k.a., Instant Messaging and Presence Service = IMPS)

Unfortunately, we don't have anything that interfaces into that. (Other than ability to send out configuration settings for this.)

Bryce,

No, I'm talking about direct phone-to-phone SMS messaging which takes place in a special environment on most handsets which looks like instant chat clients like Yahoo, but it is absolute SMS.

Saeed,

I guess I'm confused.

I've seen two different types of chat. The one that takes place in a special environment on the handset is instant messaging (Wireless Village/IMPS). In newer Nokia phones, this is the "Chat" option under the "Messages" menu.

The other type shows up in the regular SMS inbox, and this basically involves people sending in SMS to a server that is managing a type of chat room. People often have to learn special command formats to participate in this type of chat.

I've been trying to learn more about Wireless Village/IMPS, but it is quite a bit of information to digest...

Bryce,

Thanks. I think I was cofused !!
You are right, what I was talking about was IMPS chat feature.I took a peek at the docs on "OpenMobileAlliance" but as you mentioned that's a bit complicated. I think I would spend some more time on it later.

Thanks

Hi,

I have tried sending wvsettings to a sony ericsson phone using the Nokia/Ericsson OTA Specification v7.1 (with the <WVSettings> xml tag) and it worked.

However, when i tried sending wvsettings using the Nokia OMA Client Provisioning specs, the settings is not received by my nokia 7610.

This is the xml that i used. Please point out what i did wrong:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE wap-provisioningdoc PUBLIC "-//WAPFORUM//DTD PROV 1.0//EN" "http://www.wapforum.org/DTD/prov.dtd">
<wap-provisioningdoc>
<characteristic type="APPLICATION">
<parm name="APPID" value="wA"/>
<parm name="TO-NAPID" value="myTestGPRS"/>
<parm name="NAME" value="Wireless Village Settings"/>
<parm name="ADDR" value="http://test.com/wirelessvillage"/>
<characteristic type="APPAUTH">
<parm name="AAUTHNAME" value="test"/>
<parm name="AAUTHSECRET" value="test"/>
</characteristic>
</characteristic>
</wap-provisioningdoc>

Thanks in advance.

Since the settings question is really separate from the issue above, I'm going to move it to a separate thread:
