Hi,

I have configured a SMPP connection to a SMSC that we have an account on. When setting up the account, the test is performed and returns OK. However when I try to send a message from the web interface, the event log returns the error: "interface is not available". What would be causing this? Is it a configuration problem at our end, or is the remote SMSC returning this error?

Thanks in advance,

Michael

Hi Michael,

There should be more information about the specific error appearing in the SMSOUT-yyyymmdd.LOG file.

It sounds like the NowSMS service is having difficulties connecting to the SMPP server. Basically, we are either unable to make a TCP/IP connection at all, or the login is failing. This is strange if the test is always ok in the configuration program.

Check to see what the SMSOUT-yyyymmdd.LOG file is saying.

One other idea. Try disabling the "Receive Messages" checkbox, and see if this makes a difference. (If it does make a difference, but you need to receive messages, recheck the button, but then under the Advanced Options enable the transceiver option, as your provider might expect you to connect as a transceiver rather than with 2 connections, one as sender, one as receiver.)

If we need to troubleshoot it further, I'd suggest enabling the debug logs. You can do this by manually editing SMSGW.INI, and adding Debug=Yes under the [SMSGW] header.

After doing this, restart the NowSMS service and attempt to send a message again.

E-mail the SMSDEBUG.LOG and SMPPDEBUG.LOG files to nowsms@now.co.uk. (The SMPPDEBUG.LOG will include your password for the SMPP service, so you may want to xx that part out before sending ... and definitely don't post it directly here. Although, most service providers do have IP address restrictions to provide further authentication.)
