Hi, I hv an Itegno and is having problem using the modem with NowSMS. It reports error saying "Unable to initialize modem: Error 80000018 frm lineGetID" I noticed fm the site that this is a supported modem.. do you hv any tips/suggestion on how I ccan make this modem work? TIA Vincent | |||

Hi Vincent, This particular error can happen for a lot of reasons. Often, it means that the modem is already open from another application. I'd suggest going into the Phone and Modem options dialog in the Windows Control Panel, go into the Modems area, select the modem, and select Properties. Then go into the Diagnostics area, and "Query Modem". I suspect that dialog would also have a problem accessing the modem, but it may give a more detailed error message. I would suspect another application has the modem open (some modems ship with extra software for interfacing with the modem, and that could be in the way), or that the modem driver is associated with the wrong port, or there is a cable problem. You could also try configuring NowSMS to connect to the COM port directly ... and see if that works. If that works, but the modem driver connection does not, then it suggests a modem driver configuration problem (instead of another application having the port open). (Note that in order to use the MMS over GPRS functionality, NowSMS does need to work through a modem driver instead of direct to the COM port, but it is still worth trying to see if NowSMS can connect to the modem going direct to the COM port.) -bn | |||
