Does anyone have or know where I can find a list of SMS Service Centres, particularly in the UK?

Also could somebody clarify that if we have...

1. a connection and an account with an SMSC
2. a copy of Now SMS

... a GSM phone will no longer be needed, as the above 2 components facilitate the sending and receiving of SMS messages?

Many thanks,

Oliver Hammond

Hi Oliver,

As for the list of SMSCs in the UK, there are 4 operators in the UK, namely: Orange, Vodafone, O2 and T-Mobile and all of them can provide you with an SMSC connection contract.

Yes, if you've got an SMSC connection, there's no need for a GSM modem.Keep in mind that the choice of your SMSC type depends greatly on how much SMS volume you'll be having.Normally for a small-scale application the GSM modem is recommended, as it is cheaper and almost hassle free (You can even jump start your project without any operator intervention).

In case you need more details on SMSCs send me an email at mspaksima AT yahoo.com.

In addition to the operators, there are a lot of independent SMS service providers. They buy in bulk from the operators (and/or from foreign operators where the pricing is sometimes better but reliability and performance may be less).

Often these independents can provide you with a better deal than going direct to the operators.
