I'm not sure about Orange, but usually you would address the message using the international phone number format ... +1xxxxxxxxxx

You should ask your mobile operator if they support sending SMS messages to the destination country (and which mobile operators they support sending to).

I am also trying to text a USA mobile - my provider - Orange- says they cant see why there should be a problem but cant tell me if the netowrk to which I am sending cannot support the texts. I am tryign to text a mobile on Cingular. I can recieve texts from the mob but cannot reply. Does anyone know whether Cingular and Orange support each other?

To text a none-GSM mobile, most in the USA use the CDMA (not GSM) system you should do the following find out which operator the person in the USA uses for their mobile/cell phone service. check this table, to work out what their e-mail address is Cingular 0001112222@mobile.mycingular.net 160 characters - From, Message, Call Me Back At phone number and Subject AT&T Wireless 0001112222@mobile.att.net 110 chars for message. Subject length restriction is not provided by AT&T Nextel 0001112222@page.nextel.com 140 characters for message Sprint PCS 0001112222@messaging.sprintpcs.com 160 characters for message T-Mobile 0001112222@tmomail.net 140 characters for message Verizon Wireless 0001112222@vtext.com 160 characters for message now, using your mobile e-mail service (I have this on my Nokia 6230) send an e-mail making sure to keep it within the number of characters stated above (this is different for each operator) This e-mail is sent right away and is received in the USA as a text message. If the person replys, you receive their text as an e-mail and so on. If you are with ORANGE and use their 07xxxxxxxxx@orange.net e-mail from your mobile, they send u a free text message to notify you when u receive an e-mail (or in this case a text from the USA) all you have to do then is check your e-mail from your mobile and using book marks etc this can be a very quick process. hope this helps everyone!!

i've had the same problem. i'm on orange in the uk and i've been unable to text my friend in the US (she uses t-mobile). i receive her texts just fine but can't ever reply. i've spoken to orange about it several times and their answers vary from 'it's not our problem' to 'are you dialling the code correctly?' (which, of course, i am). today, i was told that orange doesn't have a text agreement with t-mobile in the US. not sure how that explains how i can receive texts from my friend but i suppose it explains why i can't reply.
