hi, im curious what nowsms can do? im looking for some gateway to send sms from web with custom alpha header, im not sure if nowsms the right one im looking for. im totally a now user to scripting.etc can someone guide me? | |||

Hi, I'm not really sure what kind of guidance you are looking for. I'd probably suggest starting at "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQ) link on our home page: http://www.nowsms.com/support/faq.htm Particularly the "What Is" and "Why Would I Use NowSMS" questions will give you some background on what NowSMS does. I'd suggest reading that information before jumping ahead to scripting, as SMS connectivity is required before any scripts can do anything. If you get past the basics, scripting and API information can also be found on the FAQ page, or via this direct link: http://www.nowsms.com/support/api.htm Whether or not you can use an alpha header (I assume you are referring to alphanumeric sender) is more of an issue for your SMS service provider (and the mobile operators that you are sending messages to, as some no longer allow alphanumeric sender). It is not technically possible to use alphanumeric sender if you are sending via GSM modems. NowSMS will allow (and automatically set the type values for) alphanumeric sender on other types of SMPP connections, such as SMPP. However, it is up to your SMS service provider as to whether or not they will allow the message to go out with an alphanumeric sender (and possibly they may allow it only in certain countries and operators). -- Des NowSMS Support | |||

Run the EXE in the ZIP file. More complete details here: http://www.nowsms.com/download/nowsms2009.pdf Page 6 begins the installation instructions. If you are using a GSM modem, there is a good quick start guide here: http://www.nowsms.com/documentation/quickstartguide/ Please make sure that you've read through http://www.nowsms.com/whatisnowsms.htm before you do any of this, so that you have a better understanding of what NowSMS is before you install. To avoid any confusion, keep in mind that NowSMS is not a replacement for a bulk SMS or MMS service provider. You need a connection to an SMS service provider, or a GSM modem, before you can send any messages with NowSMS. NowSMS is a middleware tool which simplifies the process of connecting to one or more of these service providers and/or managing one or more GSM modems. -- Des NowSMS Support | |||

hi des, which mean that nowsms is possible to send alphanumeric header, it only our sms provider will approve the send? i alway receive alphanumeric header, so i believe it possible for my country. | |||

Hi again, That is correct. Alphanumeric sender is not allowed in some countries for quasi-legal reasons. (I say "quasi" because in some cases it is not actually "by law", but by "common practices" adopted by mobile operators ... often in attempt to avoid further government regulation.) The basic reason for it being disallowed in some countries is for spam control reasons ... for example, all SMS services having to agree to support a reply back to the message with a keyword of STOP to stop the service from sending any further messages. Replies are not supported for alphanumeric senders, which is why they are blocked in some countries. If there is no legal or best practices reason, then it can depend on the type of connection that the SMS service provider has to the target mobile operators, and whether or not they can support alphanumeric sender. SMS providers that you talk to should be able to quickly tell you whether or not they support alphanumeric sender (or sometimes just called alpha sender). From a NowSMS perspective, we're happy to allow alphanumeric sender. Just be aware that it is not possible when sending via GSM modems (which is a question that we frequently get asked). -- Des NowSMS Support | |||
