Hi Bryce,
Most of the operators in India provide two ways to download ringtones via SMS keywords, one TUNE for nokia/samsung handsets and the other keyword ETUNES for Alcatel, Motorola, Siemens or Sony Ericsson phone.
I understand the web menu is nokia/samsung specific and it involves sending out a udh+data for the rintone. eg of TUNE (for nokia/samsung)

The above was converted from a mono midi file.

How do we send to ericsson and the other handsets? How do these operators with ETUNE send the data and what format is it in? How do we assemble the same from a midi to ETUNE format for sending to alcatel, ericsson, motorola or siemens phones?

EMS is the other alternative format ... a standard originally developed by Ericsson, Motorola, Siemens and Alcatel.

It uses the iMelody format for ring tones.

Mike Kohn's Ringtonetools is a great utility for converting between the formats (link can be found under the links below).

You need to convert the Nokia data into iMelody format, and then build an EMS message. Be forewarned, EMS is somewhat complicated, here are some links:
