Hello,

I have just downloaded and attempted to install the latest version of NowSMS Gateway but get this error as soon as the install program starts:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item"

It looks like a Windows system dialog box rather than an installer error.

This Win 2003 server previously had an old (2006)expired version of NowSMS which was recently removed prior trying the new one.

Can anyone help? We'd really like to get NowSMS up and running again.

Thanks,

Ben.

Hi Ben,

My best guesses, as I've never seen this particular error:

The download is corrupt or incomplete. Try clearing your cache and downloading again. If you use any type of download accelerator, disable it for the download.

If the download is an EXE, try a ZIP version instead. To get a ZIP version, download as an update instead of from the regular page (try http://www.nowsms.com/download/nowsmsupdate.zip).

Or maybe it's a rights issue. The installation does require admin rights on the PC. Usually Windows will prompt you, and if you say no, you'll see an error similar to what you describe. Maybe a Windows setting OS configured to not allow elevation prompts for admin rights?

Thanks Des - that did the trick! Must have been a corrupted download after all.
