Hi,

We appear to have an issue at the moment regarding NowSMS and the 2 Way SMS feature, there appear to be a huge amount of SMS being submitted to the 2Way processing script that have no recipient or text, these messages do not appear to show up in the NowSMS logs but we can see them in the server logs and the view option for 2 way processing, the same message will appear around 5+ times.

Is there a way to stop these, and/or find out where they are coming from?

Also in regards to the license limitation what counts as 1 SMS as currently the SMS will come in and go out via 2way sms to be processed and then be submitted back to NowSMS to go out?

Regards

Hi Tim,

It would help to know what version of NowSMS you are running.

The only known issue that comes to mind is this ...

Is this a configuration where more than one NowSMS is connected to each other? There was a bug in certain versions where if an SMPP client had multiple connections to a NowSMS server, NowSMS might deliver blank messages to the SMPP client.

This affected versions between 2010.05.20 and 2011.01.14.

If you switch to a single SMPP client connection (or 1 send + 1 receive connections), then the problem will go away.

If this is the problem that you are seeing, it is the server side that needs an update, not the system that is seeing the duplicate messages.

(An update can be found at http://www.nowsms.com/category/updates)

Hi Des,

The version running is v2010.02.09

There are multiple SMPP connections but each is to a different SMPP server/provider, and one SMPP User connection - the multiple ones are just being submitted to the 2 way messaging service.

The licence could do with being upgraded, please could you provide the pricing information and contact to get an upgraded licence?

Hi Tim,

Ok, it doesn't sound like this particular problem.

I've been searching for other possible explanations, and I found a reference to a problem where a message had a specific type of invalid User Data Header, and this caused the message to be posted repeatedly to the 2-way command interface.

I would suggest removing any *.IN files from the SMS-IN directory structure and placing them back in one by one until finding the problem message. (It most likely includes UDH if you look at the message file.)

The corrupt UDH in question was one where a header was present indicating multiple segments, but the current segment number was larger than the number of segments.

The 2011.03.21 version referenced at http://www.nowsms.com/category/updates does include a fix for this problem.

I will ask one of my colleagues to forward you any relevant license upgrade information. (Feel free to also contact us at http://www.nowsms.com/techsupport/contact, but I do expect someone to get back to you via e-mail on Monday.)

Oh ... and if the above does not help, please enable the SMSDEBUG.LOG.

Send that file to nowsms@nowsms.com with Attention: Des in the subject line of your message, and I will take a closer look to determine what is happening.

I have sent an sms via NowSMS, and i would like to map the delivery receipt of the message with the specific message identifier.

NowSMS, have option to process the received message. How this "2way SMS" helps us to identify this receipt is for that particular SMS.

Please help us in this regard as soon as you can.

Hi Des,

We are attempting to resolve this issue before checking which license is required, unfortunately the current upgrade agreement on the system has expired, will this affect installing a newer version to see if this issue is resolved?

Hi Tim,

Des is on holiday this week. I am trying to understand the problem you are describing. The one that Des was thinking of had blank text, but a non-blank sender. You mention a blank recipient, but I am wondering if you meant sender?

I'd suggest stopping the NowSMS services. Move every file from the SMS-IN directory structure somewhere else, then start NowSMS and move these files back one by one looking to see if a problem starts. Be especially suspicious of any messages that contain UDH.

If you need a temporary license to install an upgrade, contact our sales dept at http://www.nowsms.com/contact ... Reference this discussion board thread to give them background info.

Hi,

The Sender is always populated (not always with a valid number) and the receipient and message text is always blank - then there can be a random qty of duplicates the same (2, 5, or more).

The only issue with stopping the service and restarting is that in the time to add them back in manually a lot of messages will come in like this (as we seem to get on average over 10 a second submitted to the 2way sms with blank details).
