Hi,

we are experiencing a very strange behaviour with the gateway. The SMSMGWS.EXE process continuously stops at specific times. This seems to happen at the first occurrence of 00 minutes after it has been started again. The "NowSMS" service instead appears to be running.
What I do in these situations is to start the Now SMS Gateway Console (from the start menu). This causes the SMSGWS.exe to start again but, at the first hour completion it stops.
One thing I have noticed, but don't know if it may be related or not, is that every time I start the NowSMS administration console, a pop-up window saying "60 days remaining in trial" is shown.
Can you help me with this issue? Is there any specific debug that can be useful to identify the root cause?
Any suggestion is welcome.

Hi Giuseppe,

That is very odd. How are you noticing that SMSGWS.EXE stops running?

Is there an EXCEPT.LOG file being generated in the ProgramData\NowSMS directory? (Program Files\NowSMS if running under XP)

It would also help if you enabled the SMSDEBUG.LOG file, which is a checkbox option under the Serial # page.

Hi,

I have checked and unfortunately there is no EXCEPT.LOG file. The SMSDEBUG creation was already enabled and then I am sending you the file attached.
In addition, the event viewer reports this message when the service stopped last time:

NowSMS Error Report. Now SMS/MMS Gateway v2010.02.09 service stopped.

These are finally the steps I did last time (and I usually do):
- verified that the web interface was down (it was supposed to be up and running)
- accessed the machine through remote desktop connection
- in the services list, verified the status of the NOW SMS Gateway: it was still STARTED
- in the task manager, verified the list of nowsms related processes: only SMSGWNT.EXE was running. SMSGWS.EXE was not.
- opened the NOWSMS console. In the Service tab the SMS GTW Service resulted active and started. In the Task Manager the process SMSGWS.EXE started again as soon as the console opened.
- Closed the console and disconnected from remote desktop.
- SMSGWS appears to be running and the web interface is working again.

I have started again the smsgws process at 9:25 AM. At 10 o'clock the process should go down.

I will send you additional information as soon as the service goes down again.

Update: as expected, the process has gone down at 10:00 AM.

Hi Giuseppe,

This appears to be some sort of trial licensing problem. An inconsistency in the data that counts how many days the trial version has been used.

I'm not sure what would cause this. I'm assuming maybe a conflict with a virus scanner ... but I've never had to troubleshoot a problem that manifested like this.

The easy way to solve this is that we can issue you a temporary license code that simply bypasses this trial logic.

Send an e-mail to nowsms@nowsms.com with Attention: Des in the subject line. Include the 8 character "Installation Reference Code" from the "Serial #" page of NowSMS, and I will reply back with a temporary license code for you to install.
