toNy,

We're sending out a message, and the modem is returning an error response back that consists of the text "ERROR", and unfortunately no other details. After 10 attempts, we give up and write this to the event log.

Normally, if the modem were experiencing an error condition, I would expect an error code of some sort instead of just "ERROR".

What kind of modem is it?

I assume that when this happens on your system, you have to take some action to get messages flowing again? I'm assuming that you'd have to restart the modem, as it doesn't sound like a software problem.

I've been lobbying our developers to rename the queued message files that have problems, instead of deleting them. Since a new version is on the way, I'm going to press that issue a little harder.

I am using a Nokia Premicell 09i and getting the same error.

Is it something to do with using an older modem. When I use a Nokia 20 or 22 modem it works fine.

If it's an older GSM modem, there is a possibility that the modem wants the SMSC phone number specified in the submitted message.

This SMSC address varies depending upon what operator you are subscribed to. The only time I've ever seen it required by a NowSMS user was with a user who had an Ericsson DI28 modem which is an external snap on infrared modem that attaches to some Ericsson phones, but when you're talking about other older GSM modems, I could see where they might also have a similar requirement.

You can set the SMSC address by manually editing the SMSGW.INI file. Under the section header for the modem configuration (e.g., [Modem - ...], add SMSC=+phonenumber, where "+phonenumber" is the address of the SMSC. Here's a link to a good list of SMSC phone numbers: http://www.cellular.co.za/smsc_lists.htm. A more reliable way of determining the correct SMSC number is to put your SIM into a phone, and go through the SMS configuration menus on the phone to determine the currently configured SMSC number. When you enter the SMSC phone number, always start it with a "+" and don't include any other non-numeric characters (no dashes or dots) in the address.

Always restart the gateway service after making a change to the SMSGW.INI file.

If you try setting the SMSC value by manually editing SMSGW.INI ... if the setting doesn't make a difference, always go back in and remove it immediately so that it doesn't confuse things down the road.

You've got two error messages mixing together there.

"Command not completed. System failure executing associated command" refers to a configuration problem in the command table on the "2-way" page of the configuration dialog.

I would suggest that you remove commands from this table until you can confirm that you can properly send SMS messages.

Have you tried the SMSC setting that I describe above? (I don't recall if that was required with the Nokia 6110 or not.)
