Hi,

I am trying to use NowSMS with a Wavecom Fasttrack M1206B with an Orange SIM card. I've pointed NowSMS at COM1 and it picks up the fact that the modem is attached but when I try to send an SMS from the web interface I get the follow errors in the SMSDebug log file:

09:46:09:125 [4] ThreadProcessModem: Before ModemAllocate - COM1:

Hi Mark,

Try putting the SIM card in a phone, and verify that you are able to send SMS using the phone. (Try sending to the same phone number that you were trying to do with NowSMS.)

Assuming that works ...

Try connecting to the modem with HyperTerminal, and issue the command AT+CGREG? ... you should get a response like this:

+CGREG: 0,1

If the second number is 1, the device is connected to its home operator. If that second number is 5, the device is connected to a roaming operator. If the second number is some other value, it is not finding an operator.

This is only an outside chance of possibility, but I know Wavecom has 900/1800 and 900/1900 band models. Orange is on 1800, and if the modem is a 900/1900 model, it wouldn't find the Orange network. I say its an outside possibility because the 900/1900 models were mostly sold only in the US.

Still, it's good to check the above command, and make sure the device is finding the operator.

Beyond that, I'm not sure what would be causing the error.

Does the SIM card have a PIN configured? (You'll be able to determine that when you put the SIM into a phone.) If so, try disabling the PIN.

AT+CGREG? responds with +CGREG: 0,0

Mark,

That's not a good sign. That indicates that it can't find an operator ... basically it can't find a signal, or it can't find a signal for an operator with which it can register.

Issue the command AT+COPS=? ... it takes a few seconds to come back ... basically this will list the operators that the phone sees (like the view available networks option on most mobile phones).

I'm suspecting that you're not going to see Orange in this list ... suggesting that either the modem doesn't have a good signal and you need an external antenna or to relocate the modem ... or that you have the 900/1900 vs. 900/1800 issue with the modem.

I think that the problem is with response latency of Wavecom modem . I have tested it and the latency between the attempts to send messages should be at least 1200 ms in order not to have problems like Error: ERROR - Modem Response (2): ERROR . I have found out that cell phones have much less latency which is between 30 and 40 ms.

I am using Now Sms in trial period currently and have big problems because of this issue because I am testing it with Wavecom modems .

Bruce is it possible to change the time period between the sms's are submitted to the gateway in Now Sms .
