Hello,

I have read several confirmations in this forum that the modem Option 452 do support delivery reports, I've tried it, and mixed all possible configurations regarding the 'SMS Message Storage' options, but so far I'm not able to receive delivery reports while I'm still able to receive SMS, also I have tested it with two providers and both are supporting delivery report (AT&T and T-Mobile) but that didn't work.

Any idea or specific configurations I may missed? Please help.

Hi Noway,

Perhaps the modem manufacturer has switched internal chipsets (without updating the model number) or a firmware update has changed something with that modem.

If you want to enable the SMSDEBUG.LOG, then restart the NowSMS service and send a message with a delivery report requested, we can take a look at the log to see if it shows anything unusual.

In older versions of NowSMS, with some modems it was necessary to set the SMS Message Storage option to "Direct to Modem" in order to get them to give delivery notifications to NowSMS. This was a quirk with how some modems work, but we changed our modem init for those modems quite some time ago. Still worth a try, but I'd be surprised if it made a difference.

In any event, if I can see the SMSDEBUG.LOG for the modem init phase, it might allow me to offer an idea.

Unfortunately, I am suspecting that there are different versions of this modem and that delivery reports were accidentally disabled. Check the manufacturer web site for updated drivers, and in particular updated firmware, and maybe that will change how the modem handles delivery reports.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply, I have already tried the 'direct to modem' option and all other options as well, but none is working.

Here I did a test as you asked for, please note that I have sent the message to the same number which is used in the modem, so you will see that the message arrived to the modem after I have sent it, so we can verify that the modem is receiving messages normally, but no delivery reports appeared.

Please find the attached log.

Thanks for your prompt help.

I don't think the modem is going to forward delivery reports.

However, it is worth trying the following settings in SMSGW.INI:

Under [Modem - GlobeTrotter GI4xx - Modem Interface], add:

PollMemorySR=Yes

Under [SMSGW]:

DebugModemPoll=Yes

Collect another SMSDEBUG.LOG after applying these settings.

If you do not see a lot more information in the SMSDEBUG.LOG, then these settings are not supported by your version of NowSMS, and you should try another version.

I want to emphasize however, that based upon what I see in your current log, I do not expect that there is much chance getting this modem to forward delivery reports. Checking for other firmware versions for the modem would have a better chance of success (although it is possible that it is newer versions of the firmware that have broken this functionality).

Hello,

I've tried the above but didn't help. Which modem do you confirm that it's supporting delivery reports and works with US T-Mobile? As T-Mobile uses different frequencies than other networks in the world.

Your help is appreciated! Thanks.

I'm sorry, but no, we don't have much exposure to modems that run on the T-Mobile US AWS frequency.

I do understand that they are reforming their 3G/HSPA to 1900MHZ, which is the same frequency as AT&T, but I do not know the status of this migration. A GPRS/EDGE quadband modem may be an option, as they use more standard frequencies for EDGE. For SMS, there is minimal performance difference between EDGE and 3G because the data in an SMS is so small. (It is far more significant for MMS.)
