Hi Y'all.
Now, i am messing around an old version of NowSMS. But i am not expecting this to have been changed. Hope Bryce is here. Been a long time;)...

Open smsgw.exe.
Go to tab: "MMSC".
Now, when you want to have SMS2email and MMS2email and vise versa, you have to set some domain-names on this tab.
So you might have sms.bryce.com for sms-email and mms.bryce.com for mms-email.

Now when trying to make a 2-way system where you receive sms and MMS in an email inbox, and you want to reply, it becomes annoying that we are on two domains here.
I a user sends a sms to my radiostation-inbox, recipient will look like: "+015555555@sms.bryce.com".
All is fine. I can reply back and recipient receives a sms from me.

But... What if i want to reply back with a MMS? I cannot do that. I have to manually change "+015555555@sms.bryce.com" to "+015555555@mms.bryce.com". In threaded email-system, it will create a new thread.

It would be a lot easier if:

1. Domain name were the same.
2. If file is attached, send a MMS.
3. Else, send SMS

And it would be easier for me to sell a complete system.

Please correct me if i am wrong. I am running on an old version. But as i read it, you haven't changed this bit.

Hi Lars,

It has been a long time, but your message is somewhat timely.

In about 3 weeks time, we will be beta testing a new release with some very significant new features.

I can't go into too much detail yet, but as part of the changes, there will be some additional logic and options for email and 2-way command processing...in addition to the more significant new features.

I expect we will see more of Bryce around here once the beta release is ready for external testing.

Let me test it. I am running tests anyway.
Honestly, I actually think it once worked like I described. Talking about the part where "if (file-is-attached-in-email==true){do-mms}. Bryce might confirm that.

Hi Lars,

Unfortunately we are still about 2 to 3 weeks away from being ready to release this beta.

Des was premature to mention it ... but we are excited about some of the clever ways the new version will address some long standing issues.

As part of this we will allow the e-mail to SMS connectivity to use MMS when appropriate...sort of like you describe.

We have to maintain the distinction between MMS and SMS domain names for compatibility with existing configurations. But the SMS domain name will be given the option of MMS support.

There will also be more emphasis on routing e-mail through a POP or IMAP mailbox instead of a domain name. (Phone number goes in the email subject line instead of the address.) This is because for most installations setting up a separate email domain is a major issue.

I wish we could speed up the release a little sooner, but to be honest, this was one of the last major items on our list and we are still working on this area.

As for whether it ever worked this way ... I don't believe so. What you might be thinking of is that in the early days there was no e-mail to SMS. All email went to MMS ... even if it was just text.
