Info from a recent tech support incident:

When routing e-mail to SMS using the "Shared Mailbox Configuration" with an Exchange Server mailbox via POP3 or IMAP, a problem can occur where the message text is blank for message received from mailbox accounts on the same Exchange Server, but not for messages received from remote accounts.

This is due to a configuration setting on the Exchange Server POP3 or IMAP module.

The problem is due to Exchange Server only delivering a copy of the message content in HTML format. Normal behavior would be to use multipart/alternative format, where the message contains both text and HTML format. Services like NowSMS can then pick whether to use the text or HTML version.

Exchange uses multipart/alternative for external mail, but for local mail, especially when retrieved via POP3, it does not when using the default settings.

The message format in the POP3 or IMAP server settings (in Exchange Server) needs to be set to "HTML and alternative text" instead of "best body format". The default setting is 'best body format", which Exchange will interpret as HTML being the best body format.
