The server where NowSMS was installed has been updated from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008. What is strange is that after the update, NowSMS can start, has accepted the licence and activation (same machine than previously), but without any datas. There is no more distributions lists.... I've looked at that, and now distribution lists are in program data/nowsms/dlist . The lists that were used before update are still on the server, but in Program Files / nowsms/dlists. I've tried to copy/paste, but that don't work. I can imagine that the update of the server from 2003 to 2008 has created new folders and migrate datas. But that is not well accepted by NowSMS. IS there any way to import previous datas from the ancient folder to the new one ? Thanks in advance if you can help. Pierre

Hi Pierre, What version of NowSMS are you running? I assume it is an older version (between 2007 and 2012). If you were using a current version of NowSMS, it would continue to use the Program Files structure. There have been different handling of this in different versions of NowSMS and particularly with older Windows versions. The short solution (without upgrading NowSMS) is to copy the files/directories over. The DLISTS directory does contain all address book and dlists. Copying that directory from the old Program Files\NowSMS to the new ProgramData\NowSMS should be sufficient. My recommendation would be to copy the entire old Program Files\NowSMS to the new ProgramData\NowSMS, then delete the EXE and DLL files from ProgramData\NowSMS. -- Des NowSMS Support

Hi Des, Thanks for this help. I'll also upgrade and purchase last update. What happens when I'll have new version ? Do I have to rollback and copy back the files to program files ? Or is the version sent to program data still operational ? What is the installation of upgrade ? BE Pierre

Hi, I've done what you advised. (copy from program files to program datas, and suppr of exe and dll) Now I see users , but the distribution lists are not still seen. (they have been correctly copied in DLISTS folder in Program data). What can I change in settings or INI in order that users could see the distribution lists ? Thanks Pierre

Hi Pierre, I'm confused as to why you cannot see the distribution lists. What files do you have in ProgramData\NowSMS\DLISTS? Public lists are .TXT files in that directory. Regarding file locations in the new version, for a new install it will default to Program Files, but for an existing install, it looks for SMSGW.INI first in ProgramData\NowSMS, and if found, that is used. -- Des NowSMS Support |
