Hi Ansar, The error text "+CMS ERROR: 500" is what the modem is reporting when NowSMS tries to send a message. The bad news is that this can be very difficult to troubleshoot, because according to the specification, this means unknown error. The first thing to check is to turn the modem off and back on to see if it resolves the problem. NowSMS will try to perform a hard reset of the modem if this error occurs more than 50 times without any successful sends. But some devices can get stuck in a confused state and require a power cycle. The most common reason for this error is because the signal strength is weak. So check that. One way to check this is to enable the SMSDEBUG.LOG. NowSMS sends an AT+CSQ command during modem init, like this: 11:43:45:187 [8] ThreadProcessModem: AT+CSQ 11:43:45:250 [8] ThreadProcessModem: +CSQ: 14,99 OK If the first number is less than 20, move the modem so that it gets a better signal. It is also possible your mobile account is out of credit. One thing I recommend trying is moving the SIM from the modem to a phone to see if another device can send with the account. -- Des NowSMS Support | ||||

Hi Des, I had turned off and on the modem, still the same error. I had checked the signal strength by putting the SIM in a mobile and successfully send some messages. I am attaching the smsdebug.log file for your reference. Could you please check the logs. Thanks Ansar

Hi Ansar, Unfortunately, this doesn't give me much more insight... The modem is reporting CMS ERROR 500 when we tell it to send a message. This means "unknown error", so the modem is not telling us what the error condition is that the modem is encountering. (I would not rule out hardware failure.) Signal strength looks fine. I do notice in one of the logs that on the first send attempt, the modem reports CMS ERROR 512, and then CMS ERROR 500 on subsequent attempts. This is potentially interesting. This is a manufacturer specific error code. In the case of Wavecom modems, it means the modem is busy with other activities. What other activity it could be is the mystery. Interestingly, I did a search through our support records, and the most detailed account of a similar issue was with you 3 years ago. Take a look at https://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/72456.html - Scroll to the 3rd to last message about updating USB drivers, as that can definitely be an issue. In the previous incident, the problem went away moving the modem to another to another PC, suggesting a USB port issue ... most likely a USB port that is not providing enough power. Other thoughts... Turn off and/or disconnect the modem before each of these tests. The SIM Card might be full of received messages. To make sure it is clear, make sure NowSMS is configured to receive SMS, and SMS Message storage is set to SIM. If this does not make a difference, try setting SMS Message Storage to Direct. Try different settings for SMS Access. -- Des NowSMS Support |
