I understand that NowSMS automatically scales down the size or fits the size to the handset when an image is accessed after I do a multimedia wap push to NowSMS. Since NowSMS can only scale down the image, what image dimensions should I set my original images to, to ensure maximum compatibility with handsets? Is there any option to scale up an image also? | |||

We don't scale up (I'm not sure the results would be worth doing this) ... but let me see if I can find some good recommendations for you ... The OMA MMS Conformance document talks about different classes of device. 160 x 120 support is typical for a basic profile device. 640 x 480 support is typical for a "rich" device. Although that said, I can't think of any phones with 640 x 480 resolution on screen. The Nokia 7710 widescreen will be 640 x 320. The Treo 650 is 320x320. The typical phone form factor is more height than width. For example, the Nokia 7610 is 176x208. SonyEricsson K700i is 176x220. SE S700i is 240x320. So it's a hard call. When scaling down, we preserve the aspect ratio ... so you might be best off with square images, or images that are slightly taller than wide which would be best suited for most phones. | |||

Thanks Bryce, But for general compatibility do you suggest I put all image size as 320x240? Will this show optimal for all devices? How many colors is recommended for images like wallpapers? Also if NowSMS scales down images, does it also reduce the size of the image? Thanks | |||
