If i have a link on my wap portal where if the user clicks it an sms is sent from the handset to a specific destination. Is this possible. I want to do this instead of asking the user to manually send an sms with the request. N.B. it must be an sms for billing purposes.

I assume that you want the SMS to be sent from that user's handset ... for billing purposes.

There is not a generally available way to do this.

As part of the WAP specifications, the WTAI spec (WAP Wireless Telephony Application Interface / WAP-268-WTAI) defined WMLScript library interfaces that could facilitate this, but the functions were an optional part of the WAP specifications, and were basically ignored by the handset vendors.

You can find more information about what I'm talking about at the following link:

But basically, if you want to have a page in your portal be able to trigger the user's handset to send a message ... or even pop-up a pre-filled in form, there's not a way to do that. WTAI would have been the answer, but it never gained sufficient momentum in the optional library interfaces.

Bryce,
I have seen many sites, in which the user can download content by simply browsing to the content and then clicking on the content link. Upon this an SI is sent to the mobile browsing the wap site automatically.
How do these work?
And if we browse using wap simulators then it shows, unable to find mobile number.
I guess this works with the MSISDN somewhere while browsing the site? If yes, then how is the content sent upon clicking the link?
If the MSISDN is retrieved, can't the link simply be of the url posting format used by NowSMS to post the SMS message?
