I had an installation working on Win-2K Server Edition, but in terms of performance we wanted to install the service on win2k professional. Now we are using a GSM Phone to connect to the SMSC. The modem can be queried from the windows side, but the GATEWAY CANNOT INITIALIZE THE MODEM (Error initializing modem). In Win2K server, the gateway was able to initialize the modem successfully. We are using the same phone. Now my question is whether the gateway can work in Win2k Pro, because we have even put the latest SP (Service Pack 4) on the box.

Of course from your online dicussion forum, I have seen that it can work on Win NT, Win 2000, and XP but not Win 95/98/Me. Now which one among this: Win2K server, Win2K Pro, or both?

From the Query modem records, I can see these among other good looking records.

NowSMS will work with both Win2K Pro and Win2K server, I would suggest there may be some other device using the COM port that you have selected for the phone.

Win2K Pro is not a problem. I have a system running at my desk with that OS and a GSM modem.

Where do you see the "Error Initializing Modem" message? Is it when you "Test" the modem from the NowSMS configuration program?

Are any other error messages displayed?

Are you connecting to a named modem driver, or connecting via serial port name? (That is, is NowSMS configured to connect to named driver like "Standard 19200 bps Modem", or is it configured to connect to COM1?)

Are you able to use Windows Hyperterminal application to connect to the COM port that has the modem attached? If you connect, are you able to issue AT commands such as "ATZ" and receive an "OK" response in HyperTerminal?
