Is it possible to set a group of mobile phones so that the smsc number is my own smsc instead of the networks smsc? | |||

Technically possible, yes. But a GSM modem is not sufficient, you need more specialised kit. And I'm not sure if you need to have special access on the SS7 network or not. | |||
