Hi

I'm just running through the quickstart guide. I have enabled my sony ericsson t610 as a modem. The software detects my modem fine. I can send an SMS back to the same phone and also a WAP push message back to the same phone, both via the web interface. Both work no problem. When however I send an MMS back to the same phone I see the MMS message has arrived but when I try and open it it says downloading and then communication error. My phone is using GPRS, not GSM and it's running under the O2 network. Any ideas why I can't read the MMS ? I'm running version 4 of the Now software. Should I upgrade to 5 ? If so do I just load it over the version 4. Many thanks David.

Looking through some previous posts. Does my PC have to be accessible from the outside world via the internet ? Is that where the phone tries to go to get the MMS content when it says downloading ? I assumed the content of the message had already been transmitted. At the moment I have just referred to it as localhost with no fixed ip. Please excuse me if this is a really elementary question.

Hi David,

In the v4.x version of NowSMS, yes, your PC needs to be accessible from the outside world via the internet.

The way that MMS actually works ... well, there's a good explanation here:

http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/589.html

When NowSMS performs direct delivery on an MMS, it delivers an MMS notification message over SMS ... and that MMS notification message tells the recipient device to connect back to the NowSMS MMSC to retrieve the MMS message content.

v5.0 has additional configuration options where you can configure NowSMS to route the MMS over GPRS to the operator MMSC. In this case, the MMS message content is transferred entirely to the operator MMSC. The MMS notification is generated by the operator MMSC, and the notification tells the phone to retrieve the content from a URL on the operator MMSC, rather than from the NowSMS gateway directly.

There's a description of how to configure this in v5.0 here:

http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/585.html

And probably a little better description here:
