We have just bought a data cable for our Ericsson T28. We are now trying to add it to the NowSMS system, But when we select Com1 from the GSM Phone or Modem option, then select Test and Add Modem, we get the following :

Unable to send initialization command to modem
or
Error waiting for initialization response from modem.

We are able to AT and get an OK if we connect via Hyperterminal, so the cable and Ericsson work ok. We can also use the attached DI28 (Fax modem) and it all works, but cannot as yet get NowSMS to talk to it.

What are we doing wrong or missed ?? Pls help.

Justin,

In the NowSMS setup, are you connecting to the phone as "COM1:", or are you connecting via a named Windows modem driver?

For some reason, we seem to have more modem initialisation problems when configured to talk directly to "COM1:". We don't seem to have any problems in our own tests, but it seems to be a fairly common tech support issue.

If you don't have a Windows modem driver specifically for the T28, go into the Windows Control Panel, add a modem, tell it you want to pick from the list, and add the Generic 9600 bps Modem driver (called Standard instead of Generic) in some versions. Then tell NowSMS to use that modem, and it should work (as long as the diagnostics in the Modem area of the Control Panel are able to successfully query the modem).
