Hi,

I'm currently looking for a way to know, either at the MMSC (with a GSM modem) or SMSC (SMPP connection) level, whether the receiving handset of a MMS message can read it or not. Is it possible to configure NowSMS for that ? What do I need to achieve this ?

Thanks for your help

Hi Cecile,

Unfortunately, there is no way to know that.

If you are deploying NowSMS as an MMSC in an operator environment, the easiest way to handle this is to configure the MMSC to automatically register users to the MMSC the first time that the handset is used to send an MMS message.

This configuration is described at the following link:

http://www.nowsms.com/support/bulletins/tb-nowsms-002.htm

NowSMS can then be configured so that it only delivers messages in MMS format to users that have been registered with the MMSC. (Either automatically registered through the process described in the above link, or manually registered into the "MMSC Users" list.) On the "MMSC Routing" page, an alternate "default route" can be established for users that are not in this "MMSC Users" list. The base NowSMS product only supports an alternative where MMS messages are converted into a "Multimedia WAP Push" message. Operator versions of NowSMS (1 msg/second or higher license) have an additional option that allows MMS messages to be converted to be sent as an SMS with a link to a web page which allows the user to either view the content of the received message through the WAP browser on their mobile phone, or by retyping the link into a web browser on a PC.

For content providers, the answers are not so clear, as there is no way to proactively query the terminal about its capabilities.
