Hi,

I'm currently attempting to sue the trial version of this application to see if my Sony Ericsson k800i on 02 UK WAP will connect to an IRC server...

Now I've watched the app when I get it to connect using an HTTP proxy , to my IP, and it counts as a connection, but disconnects.

In the logs I get,

127.0.0.1 - [07/Jan/2008:18:50:02 +0000] "STARTSERVICE " 200 0 "" ""
an.ip.address.here - [07/Jan/2008:18:50:09 +0000] "CONNECT " 200 0 "" ""
an.ip.address.here - [07/Jan/2008:18:50:09 +0000] "GET /null" 400 0 "" "SonyEricssonK800i/R1KG Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UNTRUSTED/1.0"
an.ip.address.here - [07/Jan/2008:18:50:09 +0000] "DISCONNECT " 200 0 "" ""
127.0.0.1 - [07/Jan/2008:18:50:10 +0000] "STOPSERVICE " 200 0 "" ""

I'd really like to get IRC working on my mobile, but I dunno if it's possible :-(

Thanks, Josh.

I'm not sure what to tell you ... the proxy is seeing an HTTP request for "/null". Maybe you don't have the right address for your IRC service configured in the phone?

P.S. - I'd suggest trying to connect directly (if possible), instead of going through a proxy.

I am using jmIrc as well on my Blackberry. I need to use a proxy to IRC because the firewall my blackberry is behind blocks IRC. No, I can't access the firewall to make changes. I am running the trial version of the Now.WAP Proxy v2008.04.16. When I point my jmIrc to the HTTP proxy of my setup, i get an error that I can't connect - http header 400 (request not understood by server). The Now.WAP software GUI shows that I made a request, shows inbound/outbound byte activity, however it seems as though it doesn't understand what I want it to do.

When I check the Now.WAP error logs, I see the following (I've removed some IP info to keep it private):

(from error log)
<my device ip> - [08/May/2008:17:09:18 -0400] "GET /connect" "UNTRUSTED/1.0" "Error: Unsupported request for server /connect?host=Mesa.az.us.undernet.org&port=6667&passwd=&data=NICK+drsprite-%0d%0 aUSER+Drsprite+8+*+%3aname%0d%0a, port 0"

(from WAPGW log)
<my device ip> - [08/May/2008:17:09:18 -0400] "CONNECT " 200 0 "" ""
<my device ip> - [08/May/2008:17:09:18 -0400] "GET /connect" 400 0 "" "UNTRUSTED/1.0"
<my device ip> - [08/May/2008:17:09:18 -0400] "DISCONNECT " 200 0 "" ""

Is there any way to fix this? This could be the determining factor as to whether to purchase this product or not. I'm not so sure this is a jmIrc problem, as it seems other people out there are using jmIrc in http proxy mode.

Any help you can provide I would appreciate.

Thanks

It looks like the application is trying to connect to NowWAP as the content server ... rather than as a proxy.

In other words, it is like you've configured the IRC server address to be the proxy server address.
