Hi,

What do you guys know about the vx4500? I am not able to connect to any wap gateways out there. the hofo forums suggest trying now.wap but I am trying to understand how wap is implimented in the phone. The issue seems to be the lxl port settings.

Any thoughts?

Hi Eric,

Your post made me search Howard Forums ... where I saw the following thread:

http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/322008-1.html

Based upon that thread, I don't know what the signficance is of the "LXL Port". There is nothing in the WAP specifications that goes by this name.

And I'm puzzled that setting this value to 25 seems to make a difference, when we don't tunnel port 25 even if that particular setting "Allow SSL/TLS Tunnel to non standard ports" is enabled (because spammers will look for proxies that tunnel port 25). There is another more hidden setting TunnelSmtpPort=Yes that can be specified under the [WAPGW] section header in WAPGW.INI, which does allow port 25 to be tunneled, but that is a different story.

That's what makes the reference to port 25 in the above thread so confusing. I don't know what that port number would be of significance.

"Allow SSL/TLS Tunnel to non standard ports" should really only affect connections to https:// URLs. So I'm surprised that setting would make a general difference, unless maybe the browser does something sneaky.

If you connect to a Now.WAP gateway as described in that thread ... I'd be curious what log entries are recorded to WAPGW-yyyymmdd.LOG. I wonder if there is a request showing in that log that is not a request related to the URL you are fetching with the phone. (Like maybe the browser is attempting to call home for some reason.)

Hmmm....

Thanks for the information Kent. I have yet to download and try your proxy yet because I am trying to find a place to put it right now. I appreciate your help!

BTW, if you need a guinea pig to test out your stuff w\ the 4500 let me know.
