Hello,

I'm playing with the demo of WAP3GX with my cell phone and it seems to be a very interesting product. But I have a question.
When I visit the Yahoo! mobile page (http://wap.oa.yahoo.com) using my mobile provider's own WAP gateway, the page that shows up is different than the one that appears if I use my WAP3GX gateway. Ditto with one or two other sites. Why is that?

Thanks,
Martin

Martin,

What differences do you see?

I just tried my mobile operator's gateway and a WAP3GX gateway against that site, and it appeared the same.

I believe my operator uses a Nokia WAP gateway ... but it is possible that your operator might be using yet another.

Bryce,

When I access it through my carrier's (Verizon) WAP gateway, I get the following menu options: Mail/Message, Organizer, Local Info, Games, Entertainment, Finance, News/Weather, Spots, Shop/Travel, Reference, Directory, Sign In, Help, and About Yahoo!

When I access it through the WAP3GX gateway on the same phone, the menu displays the following choices: Sign In, Mail, Messenger, Calendar, Address Book, Finance, Weather, News and Sports.

As you can see, accessing the site through WAP3GX seems to eliminate a lot of the functionality I'm used to, and I'd like to know if there's a way around this, because I'm very interested in the product.

Thanks,
Martin

Martin,

I tried via a couple of different operator WAP gateways ... Vodafone in the UK, and T-Mobile in the US.

I see the same list (less options) when I connect to the Yahoo site through those gateways, as I do when I go through WAP3GX.

So I don't think this has anything to do with the gateway itself. I believe that instead it has something to do with Yahoo looking at the source IP of the connection, and enabling additional features when connecting via the Verizon gateway.

Maybe Verizon has a special marketing relationship Yahoo? (Although I thought Verizon was tied into MSN.)
