We are new to WAP and wondering how the phone connects to a WAP server/gateway from the point of secure access keys.
We are using Openwave WAP browser on the phone and there are setting for Web A Link which I assume is WAP server and an Access Key setting(keep or reset).

When we go to connect the phone says it has not been configured for security "press ok" to set this up. When we press ok the phone then shows "SENDING...." but never does get through the process.

I see the call go out on the Internet but feel the WAP server may not be capable of doing the security with the shared keys.

Does the WAP gateway /server have to be configured to do this security setup? Can the WAP3GX do this security process for us?

Hi Liam,

As long as you have an Openwave browser v4.0 or later, then these messages about keys pertain to WTLS keys. (If by some chance you have a v3.x browser, then it is likely a CDMA phone, which used a proprietary Openwave protocol. Openwave was able to stick with a proprietary protocol longer in the CDMA environment.)

If you configure the Openwave browser to talk to a WAP gateway and specify a port number of 9203, then it automatically tries to use WTLS, and you'll see the messages described in your posting here.

You can also configure the browser to use port 9201, which is unencrypted, and will work just fine with the standard version of WAP3GX.

If you want to use encryption, you need a version of WAP3GX with WTLS support. That version is not openly available for download from our web site, but if you send a message to wap@now.co.uk, we will forward it to you via e-mail.
