When using the cell provider's WAP service (Verizon), I see graphics on my phone's pages without any problems. However, I don't see any graphics when I go through my Now.WAP server. I strongly suspect that this is a configuration issue of some sort.

My phone's setup (Motorola V710) is basically the same for the two WAP connections. Only the Server IP Addresses were changed.

Is there something I need to set up on Now.WAP that I missed? If you need more info to solve this, let me know.

Thanx!

Hi Al,

That is odd.

We did have a bug in the v2.51 version of Now.WAP where we did not like the responses from some content servers, and it could cause truncated data to be returned. Mostly this only impacted dynamically generated image content.

There is a v2.52 release that was recently uploaded to the web site, so I'd suggest trying that to see if it makes a difference.

Assuming that it does not make a difference (because this problem was so specialised, I'd be surprised if it did), then I'd like to see a debug log that shows your transaction sequence. Edit WAPGW.INI, and under the [WAPGW] header, add Debug=Yes. Clear the cache on your phone (if you know how), and then repeat your content request. Then post your WAPDEBUG.LOG.

Kent, here's something else that's odd. I noticed when looking at the URL's displayed menu selections, I see different stuff between my Now.WAP server and Verizon's server.

The WAP website I am always going to for both services is: http://wap.oa.yahoo.com

For example, I will see the following menu selections on my Verizon service:

1 Mail
2 Messenger
3 Games
4 Sports
5 News
6 Finance
7 Local Info
- Yellow Pages
- Weather
- Movies
- Driving Directions
8 Address Book
9 Calendar

... and a few others

For my Now.WAP service, I see:

Mail
Messenger
Games
Sports
Finance
News
Weather
Address Book
Calendar

I'm confused.

Ok. So this is an HTTP proxy connection rather than a WAP connection.

First, regarding the differences in the Yahoo menu ... that is because Verizon has a commercial deal with Yahoo, so connections to Yahoo from the Verizon WAP gateway get an enhanced offering.

Since I don't see any references to any graphic images in the debug log, I'm wondering if the same issue applies to the graphics.

When you connect to Yahoo with the Verizon service, do you see graphics?

Thanks for the help, Kent!

Yes, I see graphics when I connect to the Yahoo site through Verizon.

I had also tried a couple of other sites, and saw no graphics, either. However, based upon your response about how Verizon gets "enhanced" service, I checked out more sites.

Now, I see that it was coincidentally just a bad selection of WAP sites that I chose. When I went to http://mobile.wunderground.com, I started to see graphics. I also see graphics on http://wap.movietickets.com.

So, I guess everything is OK. Just bad luck when selecting my sites ...

I just have a few more questions now. Some of these may be specific to my phone (Motorola V710), but I'm not sure how they affect the browser's functionality or my Now.WAP setup:

1) What's the difference between selecting a Service Type of "WAP" vs. a Service Type of "HTTP" on my phone? Is there advantages of selecting one over the other? Or, should I have one of each since there are two entries available on my phone's browser?

2) What are the "E2E" and "LXL" settings for on the phone? I set them all to the same port as the normal WAP browser port (8080).

3) Any idea of what the "Domain" setting is for?

Thanks again!
