Good Day,
Our orgainisation has just finished running a trial with NowWap Gateway installed on a laptop with MS Server 2003 and IIS6 without any issues (only for 250 users)
We have now moved to our network installation using MS Server 2008 and IIS7 and have now run into caching issues, whereby the user when they log in to retrieve content initially is fine, however when they log out and log back in again are unable to create a new session and can only view cached information on thier handsets. We are raising a case with Microsoft however is was wondering if you could shed any light on this issue? We have made changes to the Wapgwy.ini file with timers of 0 & 0 respectively and made changes in IIS7 with several lines relating to no chache.
Kind regards

Hi Chris,

I can't imagine what the issues would be.

What protocol are the devices using to connect? WAP1/WSP or WAP2/HTTP?

I know that with WAP1/WSP browsers, they tend to be not as intelligent about caching headers. In the past, we have recommend using the following headers in your responses to tell the browser that the information should not be cached:

Expires: Tue, 01 Jan 1980 12:00 GMT
Cache-Control: max-age=0
Cache-Control: must-revalidate

If you are unsure, maybe you could use WireShark to look at data going in and out of IIS to see what HTTP headers are present?

Thank you for your reply.
Since posting we have installed the gateway on a MS Server 2003 using IIS 6 and the problem has been resolved, albeit temporarily..
The devices do I deed use Wap1 and use the opera browser.
We have already as you suggested entered the additional cache controls but with no success in the MS Server 2008
Installation.
All of my wires hark traces do show connect retries in the 2003 install but not the 2008 install.
If you feel it would be beneficial I could forward you what Microsoft suggest as this may be of interest to other users.
Kind regards,
Christ

Hi Chris,

I'm not sure what you mean by connect retries. The device is trying to connect, but is failing?

If you have information that you do not wish to post publicly (such as traces), you can e-mail it to nowsms@nowsms.com, just put Attention: Des in the subject line to route it to my attention.

Similarly, if you think there is other information that could potentially be helpful to others, please feel free to post it here.

Sorry Des.
My error, the entries on the trace are "connectReply" which also contain the session i.d. As i say these are not present when i take the traces from the MS Server 2008/IIS7 install. That is where i have been focusing my attentions. Hopefully i should hear from MS today with a resolution. I will post the update as soon as i recieve it.
Chris
