Hi

I am currently using NOWSMS Gateway Lite version. I have connected a GSM modem for the setup to work. However the SIM of the GSM modem is a long number.
If I want to use short code instead(which is around 4 digits), I understand that I need to contact a local mobile network operator for same. Then if ever I do get a short code, how do I configure NOW SMS Gateway Lite Version to get messages that are sent to this particular short code?

Thanks.

Hi Anouchka,

I'm not aware of any mobile operators that will assign a short code to a phone/modem.

Generally short codes are associated with a value added service provider account, and they use an IP based protocol (usually SMPP) instead of a modem.

NowSMS Lite only supports sending SMS out via a modem. The regular NowSMS product supports other SMSC connectivity protocols such as SMPP, UCP/EMI and CIMD2, which are more commonly used with short codes.

Thank you. If ever I use NOWSMS instead, how do I proceed with the configuration of the SMPP if I do get a shortcode?
In fact, what I want to do is that once an SMS is received via that particular short code, then a PHP script is triggered to perform a number of actions.

It's very similar to what you have setup with NowSMS Lite.

Same 2-way command configuration.

The difference is that full NowSMS has more SMSC connectivity options, so you would add an SMPP connection to the provider (in addition to, or in place of your modem connection). The provider would supply details of host name and port for connecting to them, username/password.
