I have a MultiTech CDMA (MTCBA-C1-U) modem. When I try to install NowSMS Lite, I receive an error message: "Modem does not support SMS -- ERROR" I have no problem sending/receiving SMS messages via PuTTY. Will this modem work with NowSMS or NowSMS Lite? I have seen other postings for MultiTech CDMA modems on your forums, but nothing that clearly stated what was done to get them to work. Will I need to purchase a new modem? --thanks. | |||

Hi Janis, Are you sure you selected the correct port? (Maybe an internal modem also exists on another port?) We do a few compatibility checks ... the particular one that is failing in your case is AT+CSMS? We expect "OK" and "+CSMS:" to be part of the response. (We have an older version of this particular modem, and it does return this response.) Since you mention PuTTY ... if you try that command, what response do you see? I checked our change logs, and I notice that last fall we made a change to bypass this particular compatibility check, because it was causing some modems to be rejected, when they could still send SMS. However, I see this change was never applied to the NowSMS Lite version. I am pursuing getting an update to the NowSMS Lite configuration program with this change. Argh. I know that the regular NowSMS version also removed this command check when adding a modem last fall. NowSMS Lite and regular NowSMS share the same code for actual sending of messages. However, the setup programs (for adding a modem) are unique and different. This might take another day to get turned back around. -- Des NowSMS Support | |||

The v.2011.08.10 full NowSMS version works -- do you have that one in a NowSMS Lite? | |||

The Lite version has a separate configuration/setup program. It still has an older version of the modem test logic. Another update is now at http://www.nowsms.com/download/lite20120327a.zip This should make the modem test logic in Lite consistent with the latest full version. -- Des NowSMS Support | |||
