Hi,
We are using a purchased copy of NowSMS Lite with a Multi-Tech Modem and it's been running fine for months. Suddenly it stopped sending out MMS messages and gives the error 31 in the log. We've swapped out the modem and SIM and checked with AT&T, but to no avail.

Any ideas? Log Sample below:

10:32:01:099 [1154] GetCIDForAPN: Multi-Tech Systems MTCMR-H5
10:32:03:072 [1154] GetCIDForAPN: wap.cingular

10:32:03:195 [1154] GetCIDForAPN:
+CGDCONT: (1-5),"IP",,,(0,1),(0,1)

OK

10:32:03:195 [1154] GetCIDForAPN: minCID = 1, maxCID = 5
10:32:03:195 [1154] GetCIDForAPN: AT+CGDCONT?
10:32:03:318 [1154] GetCIDForAPN:
+CGDCONT: 1,"IP","wap.cingular","",0,0

OK

Hi Mike,

That is a general failure error from the Windows dial-up networking service.

My best guess is that the dial-up networking connection profile has somehow become corrupt. NowSMS automatically creates one the first time it makes a connection and then keeps using it.

I'd suggest deleting this connection and let NowSMS create it again. The process is going to vary slightly between different versions of Windows, but Windows should show a network connection named "NowSMS - Multi-Tech Systems MTCMR-H5". Delete that connection and let it be recreated automatically.

I'd suggest rebooting after deleting the connection just incase Windows dial-up networking is in an unstable state.

Thanks for the reply.

It is a Windows 2008 Server. I deleted the Dial Up Network connection for the modem and rebooted and it did recreate the connection. It still gives the same error. When I try and connect manually using the Dial up connection it replies "Error 31: A device attached to the system is not functioning." We know the modem is good since we just tested on a laptop. Anything else I can try?

Follow up. Looks like AT&T changed the profile for the SIM on their end which prevented MMS from being sent. They updated and everything went back to normal. Of course it took multiple calls to them to accomplish this :(
