Hi Peter,

Try updating the Android app ... the 2014.06.30 version added a check in this area. Navigate to http://www.nowsms.com/apk on the device browser to download.

If that doesn't solve the problem, switch back to the default messaging app, and see if it reports an error when you attempt to send an SMS. If it does, we can investigate further. If it doesn't, that suggests the network is not returning an error, just accepting but ignoring the message.

That the default messaging app gets stuck in a "sending" state is a problem.

I'm going to ask our engineering team to revisit this area. But my understanding is that the actual SMS sending task is async. NowSMS does wait for awhile for a status report, but if one is not received, it can't assume the send was unsuccessful, as this gives the possibility for duplicates.

I am going to ask them to look again to see if there is an option to try to cancel an SMS sending attempt that is not responding. If we could do that, and get acknowledgment of the cancel, then an error response could be triggered.

The odd thing though is that on my "out of credit" tests, I get an error. So this behavior may be network specific.

Unfortunately, I think what you are seeing is network specific behavior. Or maybe device specific, it's hard to say. The fact that the default messaging app gets stuck in "sending" is the concern.

I've been running some tests today with SIM cards that have run out of credit, and NowSMS is correctly seeing errors, as is the default messaging app.

When NowSMS tries, the PC side retries the messages, and the logs record a "503 Service Unavailable" message.

I did notice in the debug logs that Jelly Bean and Kit Kat devices come back with an error pretty quickly, but I see a Gingerbread device require 45 seconds to report the failure.

I asked our Android expert about this, and he indicated that there was no timeout value that could be set. Once we ask the Android OS to send a message, there is no way to cancel it.

We would be curious to see an SMSDEBUG.LOG from your system to get a better idea of what you are seeing in this situation. However, we are skeptical that anything can be done. We will continue to try looking at this behavior on different devices/networks to see if we can recreate what you are seeing.
