Hi
Is it possible to use an android phone as a modem but without a wifi network?
For example, by allowing the modem and host PC to connect directly to each other?
If not, any other means ie USB?
Also has anyone had any experience using nowSMS in Havana, Cuba.
Thanks
Greg

Hi Greg,

I've seen a few Android phones that can support a USB connection, but they are rare. I hesitate to mention any because depending on which mobile operator a phone was originally sold through can determine whether or not modem support is enabled in the phone.

My experience has been that older Samsung Galaxy models had this support, but it is less likely to be supported in newer models. You'll find a few threads searching here that reference using the original Galaxy and Galaxy 2 models over USB with NowSMS. And it is important to note that when this is supported, it is send only (no receive/2-way support).

Overall, WiFi with the app is a better way to go, as it just works. Even if the WiFi network is local-only/no internet connectivity.

I can't recall any feedback regarding NowSMS in Cuba, but frequently in these types of queries, we are not aware of geography.
