My smsin log shows that a bunch of MMS messages came through (in the form of SMS notifications that there is an mms message)... But I only see the SMSes got processed. It seems that the MMSes just where not processed for some reason. A reboot of the server seemed to correct the problem but past mmses where still not processed Is there a way to ask NOWSMS to re-try downloading the message? here is my SMS log for failed MMSes 2015-10-15 08:58:47,4701,HUAWEI Mobile Connect - Modem,Binary=1;DCS=4;UDH=0C05040B841388080411030202;Data=6E66342D6C4B00;Recip=+1 4169264421 2015-10-15 09:10:58,4701,HUAWEI Mobile Connect - Modem,Binary=1;DCS=4;UDH=0605040B841388;Data=010607BE8DFBAF84B4848C8298417148596 E6F6178794D374D4971692D75008D928918802B31343136393836313434362F545950453D504C4D4 E0086818A808E02C25C8805810306978083687474703A2F2F6D6D7363686F6F646D6D312E74656C7 5732E636F6D3A383739392F616D6D73633F417148596E6F6178794D374D4971692D7500;Recip=+1 4169264421 2015-10-15 09:11:30,4165541446,HUAWEI Mobile Connect - Modem,Text=" test";Recip=+14169264421 2015-10-15 09:17:21,4701,HUAWEI Mobile Connect - Modem,Binary=1;DCS=4;UDH=0C05040B84138808044E8F0201;Data=010607BE8DFCAF84B4848C8 298414846465067786856577A774F69306348008D928918802B31343136343838313938322F54595 0453D504C4D4E0086818A808E03022E2E8805810306978083687474703A2F2F6D6D7363686F6F646 D6D312E74656C75732E636F6D3A383739392F616D6D73633F414846465067786856577A;Recip=+1 4169264421

Hi, NowSMS automatically retries MMS content download every 15 minutes for 24 hours. Retry attempts are stopped only if the MMSC explicitly returns an error indicating that the message does not exist. If you see .Q files under the MMSINQ directory, there are pending MMS via modem downloads. Unfortunately, this activity is not logged, except in the SMSDEBUG.LOG. We'd need to analyze that to understand what is occurring. All this said, there is not a one-to-one relationship between notifications received via SMS and MMS messages. In particular, if an MMS is not picked up, there may be resent duplicate notifications, which will be ignored. But also there is the case that most MMS notifications are multipart, so a single notification spans multiple SMS. Looking at your log, I can tell by thee UDH if it is multipart. 0605040B841388 - Short UDH...single part or fully assembled message. Should be processed as MMS notification. 0C05040B841388080411030202 - Long UDH...segmentation info at end. Message reference #1103, part 2 of 2. 0C05040B84138808044E8F0201 - Long UDH...segmentation info at end. Message reference #4E8F, part 1 of 2. Do you have instances where only one part of a two-part message is received (each part has the same reference #)? That would be a problem, as without both parts, the MMS notification cannot be decoded. -bn Bryce Norwood Now SMS/MMS Support

In the above example there was an issue the stick and the DUN to download the MMS over the cell provider was failing. So the stick could not download the MMS message. We corrected the problem but the MMS message was not retried. Im just wondering if there is any way to re-trigger the download.

If DUN fails, NowSMS automatically retries MMS content download every 15 minutes for 24 hours. Retry attempts are stopped only if the MMSC explicitly returns an error indicating that the message does not exist. As I stated, unfortunately, this activity is not logged, except in the SMSDEBUG.LOG. We'd need to analyze that to understand what is occurring. If you see .Q files under the MMSINQ directory, there are pending MMS via modem downloads. If MMS download fails (over 24 hours or MMSC reports message does not exist), the .Q file will be renamed .BAD. It can be renamed back to .Q to attempt reprocessing. -bn Bryce Norwood Now SMS/MMS Support |
