We recently updated to the latest version of NowSMS Lite and MMS messages going to Android phones are not showing the image. It says "Multimeda message", but clicking on the message does not show the image sent. MMS messages sent to iOS devices work fine. We are using an Android phone on the Verizon network as the modem. I seem to remember having this issue a couple years ago, but can't find what the solution was. Thanks. Mike

Hi Mike, We haven't made any changes to message formatting, so I can't think of what this could be. If you send an MMS message from the web interface, does that work for an image? Does an Android receiver on Verizon have issues, or is it only other networks? -- Des NowSMS Support

If I remember correctly, there was a line modification to one of the files to get the image to show correctly when the MMS was received in Android. Unfortunately, the original server crashed and we had to rebuild so I can't reference. I don't see it on the forum either. Not sure if that helps. Mike

I found the email with the setting for Android - "Edit the MMSC.INI file and under the [MMSC] header add EMailAutoSmil=No This oddly named setting will disable all automatic generation of SMIL content (which is the slideshow presentation language), so it should do what you want." Is this still applicable to the current version? I placed it in the MMSC and it seems to work.

Hi Mike, That setting would apply. Are you submitting via e-mail? Web submissions also auto-add SMIL, and I managed to send MMS out via a Verizon phone with no Android image problems via a web submission. It's great if this setting fixes your problem, but it shouldn't be needed, so we'd like to investigate. -- Des NowSMS Support

Submitting via the web interface. The images appear on a Nexus 6 and Galaxy 6, but not a Galaxy 7. Not sure if there is a setting on the phone that might be preventing the image from showing. It just shows the text and then "Multimedia Message".

Hello, This issue has repeated itself after updating to version 2017.4.7 Attached URLs are not appearing when sent to an Android device. It works fine on an iOS device. I tried the following - "Edit the MMSC.INI file and under the [MMSC] header add EMailAutoSmil=No", but it had no effect. We are trying to send a map from google maps in the MMS by linking the URL in the MMSFile parameter using the web interface. URL = http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/staticmap, etc. URLMMS = "http://" + MMSserver + ":8800//?PhoneNumber=+1" + CellPhone + "&MMSFrom=test&MMSSubject=" + subject + "&MMSText=" + txtbody + address + "&MMSFile=" + Server.UrlEncode(URL); Again, this was working for years and still works for iOS, just not Android now (ver. 8 used). Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Mike, What about sending a simple image from the menu-based web interface? Is that also having problems? That will tell us how to proceed... If images via the menu-based web interface are ok, then there is probably a MIME type issue with the URL, and we need an example URL to inspect. If images via the menu-based web interface also have the issue, then I'm suspecting there is something operator specific (sending or receiving side) or phone model specific (different Android vendors do have their own messaging clients, and it is possible that there are different preloaded messaging clients on some operator skinned phones). You're in the US, correct? If we're dealing with the second scenario, we'd like to send test messages to one of your devices through each of the 4 major US operators. We'll just need you to email a phone number for us to send to. And we'll troubleshoot based on the results of those tests. If you have a phone number for us to send test MMS to, email it to nowsms@nowsms.com with Attention: Des in the subject line. -- Des NowSMS Support

We worked with Mike last week to resolve this issue... This is a follow-up for others who might see a similar issue. Sending images in an MMS from the web interface worked, but images posted via URL submission (MMSFile=http://) were not...at least on some Android devices. The issue is that NowSMS is not properly determining the image content type when downloading images from a remote server. We were able to work around this issue by appending this to the Google maps URL: &nowsmsfn=/map.png ... Google will ignore this parameter, NowSMS will see it and realize the content is a PNG file. -- Des NowSMS Support |
