There was a previous post regarding this, but I have additional problems.
Basically, I get the error Unable to fetch URL when I set MMSC to port 80. So if I set it to something else like 8801 it wont give me that error, but I cant retrieve the MMS data when trying to retrieve from a mobile phone (but I do receieve a notification message).
Can someone point me in the right direction?

It sounds like there is another server on your PC that is already bound to port 80. (IIS perhaps?)

The "Unable to fetch URL" means that NowSMS is trying to connect to "HTTP Port Number" on "Local Host name or IP Address" (configuration settings on the "MMSC" page of the configuration dialog), and it cannot.

If "8801" worked, but "80" does not, then this suggests that another server was already using "80", and the NowSMS MMSC was unable to bind to it.

If you are unable to quickly determine what other application might be using port 80, there is a great utility called TCPView which can tell you which executable has it allocated. (http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/TcpView.html)

For more suggestions, see http://www.nowsms.com/howmmsworks.htm.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I have IIS setup. So what would be my options?

Hey Bryce,

I thought maybe I should give you a bit more detail about my situation. Basically we are a running a web site on this system, so port 80 is being used. We have a GSM modem and NowSMS installed and it's worked great so far with SMS. We're trying to take it a step further so that our users can send and receive MMS. So in addition to my previous posts I would like to ask.

For the kind of service we're providing (ability to send receive MMS by users who sign up to our site) would it be best to set up NowSMS to do 'Direct MMS Delivery' or 'Through the operator MMSC'?

What exactly is an operator MMSC?

If the client device can receive the MMS notification but can not download the MMS data (port specified to be 8801 or anything else), does that mean that MMS wont work due to how the client device's service provider is set up? And are there any other possible causes?

Thank you

Hi,

Sorry for the severe time lag in reply.

If you can use port 8080, give it a try.

Also, make sure that "Local Host Name or IP Address" on the "MMSC" page of the setup is set to a valid external address or host name for your server. (Since it is an existing web server, this should not be a problem.)

But chances are that even if you could use port 80, there would still be a problem.

As described in the http://www.nowsms.com/howmmsworks.htm link, most mobile operators block all MMS message delivery from external MMSCs.

In the default configuration of NowSMS, it is acting as an MMSC. And when the operator is blocking, what you will see is that a notification goes to the phone, but the phone cannot receive it. (Some phones hide the fact that a notification was actually received, so it's helpful in this case that you have a phone that does display it, as it gives us a better idea of what is going on.)

Basically, configuring NowSMS to send messages through the operator MMSC is configuring NowSMS to send MMS messages through the operator, similar to how it is already sending SMS messages.

When you use a GSM modem to send SMS messages, the modem connects to the operator SMSC to ask it to deliver the message to the recipient.

In its default configuration for MMS, NowSMS acts as an independent MMSC.

But you can also configure it to make a GPRS connection to the operator MMSC, and ask the operator MMSC to deliver the message.

This type of configuration is described in more detail here:

http://www.nowsms.com/documentation/ProductDocumentation/mms_notifications_and_c ontent/Connecting_to_operator_MMSC.htm

Note that you need to configure the appropriate MMS settings for your mobile operator. Settings for many mobile operators can be found here: http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/485/491.html

Hi Guys,

I want to do the following: To send 1 MMS through the operator MMSC and get the MMS notification that contains the URL for the content. After that I will send the MMS notification to different users that will download it from the same URL on the operator MMSC.
Is this scenario feasible?

How to do it? because when send MMS notification from the GUI it is fetching the operator MMSC and is not able to that.

Best regards
