Hi all,

I'm currently looking into ways that we could receive picture messages. We need to be able to get picture messages onto computer as cheaply and as efficiently as possible. Currently I can see two options:

1. Get a GSM modem and NowSMS (or similar system) and connect it to my computer and leave it to receive messages

2. Buy a phone and connect the phone to the computer.

Currently option 2 is looking cheaper, and option 1 less hassle in the long run, but I'd like to hear your opinions on each set-up.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris,

One of the limitations of using a mobile phone as a GSM modem is that the MMS/WAP Push client in the mobile phone always intercepts MMS notifications, so that they are not presented over the GSM modem interface.

Therefore, NowSMS will not see any received MMS messages.

The only solution is to use a dedicated GSM modem device (because on a dedicated GSM modem device, there is not an MMS client running on the device to get in the way of this process).
